The story of Nike begins with Phil Knight, a passionate man seeking to bring innovation to the sneaker market back in 1962. Having no experience in business, but as the man who’d later create Nike, he went ahead and just did it. By 1964, Phil Knight joined forces with his former trainer from the University of Oregon: Bill Bowerman. Thanks to the 1968 Olympics in Mexico, the CORTEZ became one of the best-selling shoes. It became so popular that they couldn’t keep up with the demand. And that’s how by 1971, they started designing shoes and working on their new brand. From then on, Nike kept evolving, and its story became one of progress and growth.

It didn’t mean anything unless it had a Swoosh.” For the 2021 Season, WNBA Rookies, Charli Collier, Rennia Davis, Awak Kuier, Aari McDonald, Michaela Onyenwere, DiDi Richards, and Iliana Rupert, all joined the Basketball Nike family.  These women embody what it means to be a Nike athlete, both with their on-court athleticism and off-court authenticity.
